Our Preschool/MDO provides Jump For Joy classes for its students, giving them time for structured movement. A typical Jump For Joy class is 15 minutes long and includes some age appropriate games, dancing and physical activities... all of which are great exercise for the body, mind and spirit!
All you have to do is read the newspaper to know that obesity-related diseases are at an all-time high for children. We can thank junk food and sedentary life-styles (TVs and computers) for this.
It is imperative for children to learn that we need to get moving at an early age. They also need to learn that exercise is FUN and makes their day much better. We want the children at First United Methodist Preschool/MDO to love exercise and consider fitness a way of life from here on.
What are the benefits of participating in Jump For Joy?
For the body...
It's great exercise for muscular strength, cardiovascular health, coordination and balance.
For the mind...
As we are exercising our bodies, we are also exercising our minds by reiterating much of what they learn in their perspective classes (the alphabet, shapes, numbers, opposites, colors, right/left, etc.).
Students are also improving their listening skills by following directions.
For the spirit...
All Jump For Joy classes are set to Christian music. Fair play, good sportsmanship and teamwork are emphasized.
